Nokia Point And Find Tried And Tested
We’ve been keeping an eye on the Nokia Point and Find trial for a little while now, with the service currently being tested in Colchester. Point and Find effectively lets you point your Nokia at things you want more information on, and uses a clever mix of the camera, GPS, your internet connection and a database to deliver the information. Does it work though? Find out after the jump…
Point and Find review
When typing data in is just too much of a chore, the attraction of an application like Point and Find is obvious. It uses your phone’s camera, internet link and GPS (if you have it) to recognise then hunt down cinema times and shopping bargains, in real time.
Nokia Point and Find launches
Nokia’s Point and Find technology has been launched and allows you to use your Nokia phone to scan items and locations and get detailed information about them.
We first brought you details of Point and Find last year, saying that it would be out within months. While it took a little longer than expected, the Beta version is now available for use in both the UK and USA, with later versions adding support for other countries.
Point and find ready to go – soon (exclusive)
We’ve just been talking to a Point and Find insider who tells us the service is all set to launch in the US and UK. Initially it’ll only be available on the N95. Movies are going to be top of the agenda, too, our man tells us that there’s plenty of material tagged and ready to get the service up and running in a pretty convincing way.
Oh, we didn’t mention that earlier did we? The service works by having images pre-tagged, so when a user finds something, the service knows what it actually is.
Nokia to release Point and Find within months
Remember Point and Find? Revealed first at last year’s The Way We Live Next conference. Well, it’s about to hit our devices any time soon. According to Teppo Paavola we’ll be seeing Point and Find in the next few months.
The service works simply by using your phone’s camera at specific objects (for example, a movie poster) and it’ll give you back information about it. Want to know more about that movie poster? Simply point your phone’s camera at it and hit search, and let your phone do the rest.
