Google Maps 4.1.1 Released For Symbian

google-maps-4.01.1Although it can’t match Ovi Maps when it comes to free mapping, Google Maps is still a good addition to have on your Nokia as a backup, and the latest version is now out in the form of Google Maps v4.1.1. Available for Symbian devices, Google Maps v4.1.1 brings a few changes and updates to the app, and is available to download now. To find out more about Google Maps v4.1.1 join us after the break…

Google Maps is a great little app, even if it does fall slightly behind Ovi Maps as an overall package. We’re not certain what the latest version of Google Maps has to offer over the previous version – Google Maps v4.1.0 – but if the changes are along the same lines as Google Maps for Android then they’ll be well worth having.

Ovi Maps is still the best

Of note, two of the features for Google Maps 4.1.1 on Android include real time route instructions and voice navigation, both of which are really needed if Google Maps is to compete with Ovi Maps. That said, Ovi Maps still has the edge, with the ability to download mapping to your Nokia or microSD card, so you won’t need a data connection to get directions.

Download Google Maps v4.1.1 from m.google.com on your Nokia.

I think you will find that Google Maps are about 7 years ahead of OVI maps in terms of the mapping data for rural areas. Certainly for my bit of Oxfordshire this is true. Ovi maps = big splash, tiny rock
