Spotify mobile has the complete selection of tunes available to desktop users and if you are canny you can let your guests contribute to the playlist via their own copy of Spotify. You might want to arrange a wifi connection at the party venue, mind you, unless you plan to load up the entire playlist into onboard memory.

One of the most maddening things at a party is when they play a great tune but nobody knows what it is or who it is by. Shazam can come to the rescue with its magical tune-recognition algorithms. Just let the app ‘listen’ to a few bars of the tune in question and it will try to guess what it is. The free version is limited to 5 tunes per month, but that should be enough to get your through at least one party so you can decide if it is worth shelling out for.

If you are unlucky enough to find yourself in this situation you may be glad of Bambuser, which will let your non-ill friends stream live video of the xmas do straight to you via wifi or 3G while you slurp your lemsip. Alternatively, you can just use this neat app to preserve the event directly onto the web for refreshing people’s hungover memories the next day.
