Ovi Store App: Best Safe Lite Review
Do you have loads of secret stuff that you need to keep hidden away from prying eyes? Even if you are not a master criminal or secret agent, you probably have an array of login passwords, bank details and other nuggets of information that you mustn’t let on to anyone else. Best Safe aims to help you keep it all under wraps. Check out our Best Safe Lite review and see if it live up to expectations…
Storing data is really easy – you can either choose from one of Best Safe’s comprehensive list of categories (bank account, driving licence, password, etc.) or create a free-form text note containing whatever you want. The predefined entries cover a wide range of areas (some rather incongruous – secret clothing sizes, anyone?) and come with appropriate fields to be filled out (e.g. account number, sort code, etc.) You can also create sub-folders if you want to categorise your data. Entries are edited in the usual way and you can copy and paste data in and out – which is handy for quickly filling out web forms.
The first time you use the app you will be asked to enter a password. This password is the ‘master key’ for all your data and is used to encrypt the files on your phone’s memory. Even if someone were to find the file and copy it off the phone they would still have to decrypt it before being able to get at its contents.
Best Safe uses the Blowfish and MD5 algorithms to secure your data – none of your half-baked proprietary encryption here, this app uses military grade code you can trust because it has been peer-reviewed by proper cryptologists who can do hard sums and everything. Of course, all that security is only as good as your password – so don’t go choosing something like ‘password123′ or you may as well just write the data on your forehead.
One criticism of this kind of app is that it is a single point of failure. Assuming you do decide to lock up your data in Best Safe, you need to be aware that losing or forgetting your password could result in you losing access to your data (at best) or allowing some n’er do well to look at it (at worst). If you can accept this risk, though, Best Safe is a comprehensive and secure way of carrying important info around and something that could make your life markedly simpler.
