Nokia Home Music Station Alive and Kicking!

Nokia Home Music Station Alive and Kicking! It’s been nearly a year since we last heard anything about the Nokia Home Music Station but it looks like this nifty music device is back on track and has made a surprise surface in the US of all places. Find out more about the Nokia Home Music Station and how it could well change the way we listen to music in the home after the jump…

The Nokia Home Music Station, which is currently available for purchase in Europe, is reminiscent of the Bose home music systems, both in terms of its design, colouring, and size. However, the Nokia Home Music station will access your shared home network, stream internet radio stations, playback your tunes from a USB stick and allow you to create and listen back to podcasts. Read on after the jump for more details.

The guys over at Symbian-Guru.com has managed to get their hands on a test unit and given it a thorough run-through. The Nokia Home Music station is white in appearance and uses a similar 3.5-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels), which is quite similar to the one found on the Nokia N95 8GB and the Nokia N82.

The standby screen displays a row of icons that give you immediate access to Podcasting, Radio, Favourites, Jukebox, and History, as well as Options, where you can access a number of settings, such as setting up a network etc.

As we said, you can create your own Podcasts using the Nokia Home Music station as well as listen back to other pre-loaded directories of podcasts. One nice feature is that you can type in the URL of a particular Podcast into the Nokia Home Music station, and it will locate it — providing you have an internet connection that is.

In addition, you can also access both FM and Internet radio stations, meaning you can enjoy both digital and the more old-school format of radio, which is particularly handy for when you don’t have an internet connection. The Nokia Home Music station comes with a wealth of pre-loaded Internet radio stations, which you can add your own favourite stations to.

As we mentioned, you can access music from your home network or off a USB stick that is inserted in the back of the Nokia Home Music station. This mode is called Jukebox, and in it music can be streamed from your local network to the Nokia Home Music station seamlessly – although, at present there is no application available to sync it up with mobile devices, which is a little annoying.

Additionally, the Nokia Home Music station allows you to quickly browse through your recently accessed media, be they audio tracks, podcasts, or Internet radio stations.

As we said, the Nokia Home Music station uses a similar display to N-Series Nokia mobile devices, and for this reason, is begging for an application that would allow you to use your mobile device as a remote control. Unfortunately, there isn’t one at present. However, this could all change following the US release of the Nokia Home Music Station, which is scheduled for the last quarter of 2009 — so pretty soon!
