Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v31.0.101 hits!

Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v31.0.101 hits! The Nokia 5800 remains one of our favourite smartphones and we’ve been waiting for the Firmware update to Version v31.0.101. It’s taken a couple of weeks but this latest update has finally come to our handset. It’s not the most recent update, as v31.2.008 is already up and running in some places but find out about our Nokia 5800 firmware v31.0.101 update after the jump…

We first got wind of the latest Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v31.2.008 when a story popped up on Symbian Guru stating that the update had hit over there. Well, it seems we’re still a little behind the times, as firmware version v31.0.101 finally hit our handset late last night OTA (Over The Air). It’s a quick install but you’ll need to restart your Nokia 5800 so best to back up the device before carrying out the update.

Check out our Nokia 5800 review (10 months on)

We had no problems with the update but in reality there is very little change to the device. It feels a little more robust, but while we were hoping for kinetic scrolling, this still hasn’t appeared – nor has a refresh of the Homescreen to bring the Nokia 5800 more inline with the cheaper Nokia 5530 XpressMusic or ’soon-to-be-released- Nokia X6.

While the Nokia 5800 Firmware Update v31.0.101 feels very much like a background maintenance update, it’s still worth getting your hands on when it arrives as having the latest version of the OS puts your handset int he best possible position. Remember you can update your Nokia 5800 via OTA (Over The Air), or you can always download using the Nokia Software Updater using your Windows laptop. Before you do so, backup all your files and folders, just in case the worst should happen.

T-Mobile UK are awful. I’m still packing V 21.0.025. When will they bother to get round to update?!

Hi Rob, I was in the same boat, but managed to update today by changing the phone’s product code using a program called JAF. This makes the Nokia Software Updater think you have a phone with a different product code; you can change the product code to one that identifies it as a full-price non-T-Mobile-branded handset which is therefore eligible for all updates, before waiting for T-Mobile to OK them first.

I used the info on this page (http://www.nottinghamjazz.co.uk/blog/?p=66) but some of the files he mentions are no longer in the places he says they are – a bit of Googling will find them though.

Warning – it’s fiddly, will void your guarantee, and to be honest I’ve not seen any noticeable differences in the phone yet. It might go wrong I suppose, although mine went fine. Good luck!

Hi, i’m still running 21.0.025 software. I plugged my phone into my laptop to upload some pictures about a month ago and when i unplugged it i noticed a few things had changed. When i scroll down on any thing (for example, contacts) i find that it nicely and smoothly moves to how much you scroll down, not like old way it used to be. A bit like an iphone. Also when i press to open something it gives me a little red pulsing light, like i’s loading. Could anyone let me know why it’s doing this? Cheers

Kinetic scrolling, that’s the word i was looking for, you slide it hard and it goes a long way or softly sends it a little way down. How come other people are not getting this?
