Ovi Store: SMS Tag review
Your SMS inbox can get full up very quickly. If you have a lot of memory to play with the situation can be even worse – hundreds of text messages, all jumbled up together. Difficult to search and practically impossible to organise. How are you meant to be able to find that important phone number or the directions you were sent weeks ago? We’ve been testing out SMS Tag on our Nokia N97 to see how it copes, find out how we got on in our SMS Tag review…
SMS Tag might be able to help. Using SMS Tag you can add tags (descriptive labels) to each message in your inbox. For example, if you get a text asking you to buy some milk, you can tag it ’shopping list’. If you get several such texts, tagging them all as ’shopping list’ will let you group them together so you can remember them all.
Although the standard Nokia messaging app will let you move texts in folders, this moves them out of your inbox too. You are also only able to put messages in one folder – SMS Tag will let you tag messages with multiple tags so you can file them under several categories at once.
The app is presented like an alternate version of your inbox (in muted pastel shades, if you like that sort of thing) with icons to search by keyword or to manage your set of tags. To tag a message, just tap it and select the ‘tag’ button (or you could tap ‘FWD’ or ‘DEL’ to forward/delete) and tick one or more tags from your list. One slight annoyance is that you can’t make up a tag on the fly – you must have predefined it. Creating tags is very simple, but it would be handy to be able to knock one out as and when it occurs to you rather than having to think ahead.
Searching tags is just a question of going into the master list of tags and tapping one by name. There is no facility to search for “tag1 + tag2″ or “anything but tag3″ etc., which is a shame. Keyword search works just like the regular keyword search on your phone, albeit presented in pastel-o-vision.
For a freebie, SMS Tag offers a really useful facility, If you tend to use your inbox as a repository for useful info you are sent, this is a worthwhile download.

Thanks for the review Stu!
Your suggestions are absolutely valid, will do my best to include most of them in the next SMS TAG release.
