Nokia 5530 XpressMusic: Firmware Update v11.0.054
The Nokia 5530 XpressMusic smartphone has started to receive a firmware update to version v11.0.054. This latest seems to be more about bringing the device in line with other smartphones running Symbian S60 5th Edition than about making any big changes. Aside from the usual bug fixes, it seems the main change in this update is a smoother homescreen. Find out more about the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic firmware update v11.0.054 after the jump…
It seems the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic is in the middle of a firmware update, taking the device to firmware version v11.0.054. The guys over at Nokia Addicts alerted us to this update but it seems there is no changelog out there. However, it’s early days for the update yet with it only just appearing on the Nokia Software Updater (NSU).
One thing is clear, though, it seems this isn’t a big update, merely fixing a few minor housekeeping bugs and as the Addicts put it, ‘Noticed improvements in the speed of the homescreen contact icons scrolling, but apart from that not noticing any significant changes.’

The guys over at Symbian Guru have also taken the plunge and updated but have noticed very little change, even suggesting that it’s not worth getting the update. You can find out what they say about the Nokia 5530 firmware update over here.

I can’t update. I press the update button but it just presses and nothing happens?
Ben,
I had the same problem. (I’m guessing you are referring to the Software Update App). I had to update via the computer as after numerous tries, nothing made it work.
The update on the computer took about 10-15 minutes, but wasn’t 4MB as the App tells you, buy 128.
I’ve only had the update for about an hour or so. I can tell you that the Contacts Bar does scroll a lot smoother; but apart from that, I have yet to find anything significantly changed.
Samantha.
It seems to me after installing the update that BBC i-player and google maps now work, they wouldnt before

New update is available for 5530. Firmware v20.0.080. It finally fixes the scrolling of the contacts bar on the home screen – smooth and kinetic now. Seems like they dropped the Downloads option from the main menu screen. Can’t say much for other stuff.
Unfortunately still no landscape mode for the home. Also, still no kinetic scrolling for the main menu and its immediate sub-menus. That’s totally weird. Nor did they fix the one-touch-activate for the grid view versus two-touch-activate for the list view. Hope they do that.
Used latest OVI suite to install the update.
There are 4 other updates available: Mail for xchange, nokia messaging, playllist dj, shazam… there are of course all optional.

Anyone know if the updated firmware is hackable?

i just updated my phone to firmware v20.0.080.the have made the scrolling of the contacts bar so smooth it feels as if you are moving your hand in the air and they have excluded the downloads option from the main menu but it was of no use anyway.it added OVI Contacts and Nokia Maps to the applications folder and the bad thing it did was messed up all of my ordered application folder everything is jumbled up it will take me months to put it in order again. anyways the phone seems to perform much faster and it had a bug that it used to restart when typing a message it has stopped doing this i am pretty happy with this. all i hope for is
- option to adjust volume with side music buttons while the keyboard is locked
- additionaly, when holding the button for longer time, it would be nice to switch to the next track
they have also added the phone switch option to the settings menu. but as usuall the application option take about 4 seconds to open i hope that the guys at nokia read this post and try to better these things

Just updated to 054. If the contact icons are scrolling any smoother then the improvement must be at the infinitesimal level. Not seeing it. The strip still however reacts with a half-a-second delay like any other launch/action on the phone.
I didn\’t see any bugs in the first place, but since I got the phone only a week ago and I don\’t want to see any bugs, I updated. Issues I have with the phone are of the design nature but that\’s a different story.
