If you like guitars then it’s likely you love Guitar Hero, it’s just one of those games where you get to throw a few tasty licks pretending to jam along to your favourite rock songs. Well, when we say favourite songs, considering the first song you get to play along to is Lenny Kravitz we use ‘favourite’ very loosely.

There are three modes of play – Easy, Medium and Hard. You choose your character, your choice of axe and then it’s on to the songs. There are 15 songs to work your way through in total, which is half of what you’d get on the full console version but you can choose between drums and playing guitar.

You play by matching the corresponding button as the notes scroll towards you. It’s trickier than it seems and we have to admit that getting the action right on our Nokia N86 8MP was harder than we first thought. What’s more, the harder settings speed the game up, so you’d be advised to start on the easy mode until you get to grips with the game.

The bad is that Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile is little more than the version we’ve seen previously for Java phones. However, the benefit of getting to play this on an N-Gage platform is that it sounds infinitely better.

The good news is that Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile is as addictive on N-Gage as it ever was. It’s not so much about the graphics, or the choice of songs but about the gameplay and this latest version has it in buckets. If you’ve ever played Guitar Hero then you’ll know what we mean, it’s all about getting into the rhythm of the song and then trying to stay in the groove.

Just as with the full version, you can get power upgrades and the overall aim of the game is to play along with the song and pull off the best guitar licks possible. It’s a great game and this is as good a version as we’ve played.

Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile isn’t going to going to start a rock revolution but it’s a better, and trickier, game than we were expecting. If you like Guitar Hero then you’ll be more than happy shell out £6 for this mobile version.
