Nokia World 2009: What Can We Expect?
Nokia World 2009 starts on the 2nd September but with Nokia announcing so many devices over the last week, from the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition to the knock-out news yesterday of the Nokia N900 Maemo tablet, is there anything else for us to get excited about? We thought we’d have a quick check on what we can expect from Nokia World 2009.
Nokia World 2009 is where the company gets to lay down its vision of mobile phone and smartphone technology for the year ahead. It’s also a great opportunity for Nokia to taunt us with as yet unavailable devices. So what can we expect to be getting our hands on when we visit the show next week?
Nokia N900: Announced!
The Nokia N900 is something of a departure for Nokia as it’s the first Linux-based tablet to be revealed. This move away from Symbian may or may not be the start of something big. In the meantime, we know that it’ll cost around 500 Euros and will ship by the end of the year. For your money you’ll get a 3.5-inch screen running the Maemo 5 operating system. Then there is a full QWERTY keyboard, full HSPA connectivity and 32GB of memory.

Nokia Booklet 3G: Announced!
This is the big one and it came out of nowhere! The Nokia Booklet 3G is a whole new market for Nokia and takes the idea of a netbook and ramps it up to killer proportions! The 10-inch glass coated screen delivers HD Ready content and the HDMI port allow for HD content to be bounced to our HD TV hassle-free. However, with the full Ovi Suite tools onboard and 3G built-in this is the perfect device for working on the move. The full tech spec for the Nokia Booklet 3G will be announced at Nokia World, along with pricing and when we’ll finally be able to get our hands on one.

Nokia 5230: Announced!
Taking the Nokia 5800 and the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic music and giving them something of a mash-up is the best way to describe this Nokia smartphone. It packs in the 3.2-inch touchscreen of the Nokia 5800 but comes with the new Homescreen and Contacts bar.

Nokia N97 Mini: Unannounced!
We’ve seen the leaked ‘official’ image of the Nokia N97 Mini and have kind of been hoping this handset will get announced ahead of Nokia World but it now looks a little unlikely. The Nokia N97 Mini was first outed by on the Vodafone Forum and since then this smaller 2.9-inch version of the flagship Nokia N97 has been outed on a number of occasions. It’s a pretty firm bet that we’ll be seeing this handset at Nokia World.

Nokia X Series: Speculation!
With so many devices already announced, it’s a safe bet that Nokia has a few new handsets hidden away that will be making headlines at Nokia World 2009. One of the more ‘out on a limb’ ideas is that the XpressMusic line will be getting a new naming convention and re-think. The new name will be the X Series, bringing Nokia Music and Comes With Music together under one title. Rumour as it that the first X Series device will be a 3.2-inch version of the recently launched 5530 XpressMusic but no name has been attached to this device yet.

Nokia C Series: Speculation!
This rumour has followed the same lines as the X Series but so far no one has come up with a reasonable rational behind what the C stands for. Could it be Consumer? Then again Corporate? This completely new class of device is no secretive that there are no rumours whether it actually exists beyond the fact Nokia has copyrighted the name, let alone whether we’ll see a device at Nokia World.

Incidentally, NokiaPort over in Germany has put together a great list of rumours, half-truths and other snippets that is well worth checking out. Some of the rumours they have, such as the move to capacitive touchscreens and the demise of Xenon flash may not directly affect Nokia World 2009 but it’s still a great snapshot of what may be going on behind closed doors at Nokia central!
So, that’s what we think Nokia World 2009 will have in store in terms of handsets. Have we been fair, or do you think we’re in for something else? Let us know in the Comments below.
