How to update your Nokia firmware
One of the many great things we like about Nokia is that the company is constantly working on and improving the firmware of its smartphones. This week saw the latest Nokia N86 8MP firmware Version v11.043 released and last week we saw the Nokia N97 firmware Version v11.0.021 outed. However, not everyone gets these updates at the same time, so we thought we’d look at how to update your Nokia firmware…
The Nokia N86 8MP firmware Version v11.043 was released some 24 hours ago but we’ve not been able to get ahold of the update. With that in mind, we thought we’d look at what to do when an update is available but it’s not coming to you straight away via OTA (Over The Air) or using the NSU (Nokia Software Updater).
Over The Air is just that and allows you to get updates straight to the phone without having to use the Nokia software. To check whether there is an update ready, go to Tools>Device Manager>Options>Check for Update. This update can be carried out using 3G but we’d suggest using a Wi-Fi connection, as some updates can be rather big.
If you find that a firmware update is available but not accessible on your phone, this is because Nokia updates tend to work by device code and not by region. Many people assume that updates simply rollout region by region. However, the device code is the secret to how updates are rolled out.
If you have tried updating your Nokia smartphone using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) software and found that you can’t download the latest version of the firmware, you can check with the Update website. To do this, you’ll find a link on the updater that takes you to the main Nokia site. This site will prompt you to enter your phone’s product code.
To find out what your device code is you’ll need to take the back off your phone, remove the battery and look for the Nokia sticker. Type this code into update page and it will tell you whether the latest version is available for your phone. You may need to check a few times before the update comes to your device but it will eventually arrive.

Aparently you can not update over the air but you can via NSU. I for one will be updating this evening. Good luck to others who have been awaiting this release.
i have the latest pc suite on my laptop plus , i have removed it and installed it again
i have also tried after downloading the buggy 3rd class ovi suite 2.0
none of them work and NSU says that new firmware available but after 6 secs of starting it says
UPDATE FAILED ,update not available , neither it is avail for download via FOTA , My phone is just few days old
Obviously something wrong with NSU , as the phone is new , there is some problem with the software updater , i have the latest version of that as well
Dont know if any of the guru’s at nokia have tested it practically with NSU

0580591: URDU White

Hey Nok Nok thanks for this post about checking for firmware updates using the product code hidden behind the battery to force NSU to double check if a FW update is available.
Its a shame however for us UK N97 users with product code 0585162 as even if we follow your instructions we have to still suffer the dodgy 10.x firmware that was shipped with the device. We have all now waited 10 days longer than the rest of Europe to get the update. The update we need so we can use our N97’s without fear the phone will crash.
What is Nokia playing at? Why such a long delay?
