Nokia Ovi Maps 3.0 goes live

Nokia Beta Labs has officially announced that Nokia Ovi Maps is no longer under beta but is a fully fledged app in its own right. The general release version is only for the Windows OS, for which you’ll need to download the Maps Updater app. Check out what the general release of Nokia Maps 3.0 has to offer…

The guys over at Beta Labs admit themselves that it’s been a long road that Nokia Maps has had to travel down getting from first stumbling beta to a final product in its own right. However, it’s all been worth it as Nokia Maps 3.0 is now a fully-fledged app in its own right.

Nokia Maps 3.0 allows you to do more than check your current position, as you’ll be able to do local searches for Points Of Interest as well as local stores, restaurants and pubs etc. You can plan your route, either on your laptop or Nokia smartphone either for the car or for on foot. The pedestrian mode is particularly good, and one we’ve used quite a bit of late.

What’s more, when you’re on the move in a vehicle, you can get full turn-by-turn, voice-guided navigation though the built-in sat-nav tools.

You’ll need to download and install the Maps Updater and Map Loader to your PC, but as it’s a free download this shouldn’t be a problem. This version of Nokia Maps 3.0 supports smartphones running Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 and 2 and S60 5th Edition operating systems.
