With the Nokia N97 gearing up to be the launch of the year in less than 24 hours, it seems that people are already poking about and seeing what’s coming down the pipe. The Nokia N97 hits the Nokia Stores tomorrow morning, and the networks next week on the 26th June. However, that hasn’t stopped a rumour raising its head about a Nokia N97 Lite that is intended for launch later this year.

The idea of the Nokia N97 Lite started life over on the Vodafone View forum for Ireland with a debate about when the Nokia N97 would appear in Ireland on Vodafone. The moderator stated that it would be a little while before the N97 came to Ireland and also made reference to the as-yet-unheard-of Nokia N97 Lite. In his comments, The Nokia N97 Lite is referred to as “competitively” priced, with the moderator also suggesting will “appeal to a wider segment of customers”.

If you give the thread a look-see you’ll find that any reference to the device has now been pulled and users asking why the thread has been edited! Could it have been a genuine mistake or has the Vodafone guy let something out of the bag? Seems we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way, for now we’re putting this one in the ‘Hmm, surely some misteak’ pile for now but what do you think, is it possible that a mini Nokia N97 will be doing the rounds later this year and if so what would it consist of? It may be that a stripped down version, rather than a smaller handset will make an appearance, possibly with less memory. After all, who could live without the full QWERTY keyboard on the Nokia N97, it just wouldn’t be right!
