The guys over at Nokia Beta Labs seem to be working double-shifts of late, as they’ve announced  pretty hefty update for Ovi Maps 3.0 that brings with it support across the whole range of Symbian S60 devices, so not only support for S60 3rd Edition but also for S60 5th Edition, so it can be used on the Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97 smartphones. Nokia Beta Labs has announced the arrival of Ovi Maps 3.0 and is claiming this will be the final Beta version before it’s launched as a fully endorsed app. This is a pretty hefty update and brings with it support for touch devices – the Nokia 5800 and Nokia N97, principally, as well as wide support for the S60 3rd Edition platform.

Among the new features being rolled out in this version are updates for weather information, a wider degree of support for traffic information services and the ever popular Points Of Interest (POI) have been expanded and now offer extra content for travel, events and even cinema releases. For those on the move in all conditions, Ovi Maps 3.0 also sees improved safety spot warners in a wider array of countries.

Ovi Maps 3.0 works with Nokia devices:

• S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 1 (E63, E66, E71, E90 Communicator, N81, N81 8GB, N82, N95, N95 8GB)

• S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (E55, E75, N78, N79, N85, N86 8MP, N96, 5320 XpressMusic, 5630 XpressMusic, 5730 XpressMusic, 6210 Navigator, 6220 Classic, 6650, 6710 Navigator, 6720 Classic)

• S60 5th Edition (5800 & N97)

To get your hands on Ovi Maps 3.0 you’ll need to download it to your laptop and use the Maps Updater feature.  Earlier versions of Map Loader do not work with Maps 3.0 so you’ll need to install Map Loader 3.0 before adding the necessary maps to your device. DOWNLOAD Map Loader 3.0
