Nokia 5800: BBC iPlayer updated and improved

Fancy watching a bit of TV on your Nokia 5800? BBC iPlayer has been working for a while and you can even stream live TV on your Nokia 5800. That is, you could until the recent V21 firmware update, when the service disappeared from out tiny screens.

Fortunately, it’s all been resolved now. Join us after the (non-commercial) break for the full details…

If you’re one of those who like to watch the occassionaly TV show on your Nokia, BBC iPlayer for the Nokia 5800 has been an absolute boon. However, it seems with the recent firmware update to V21 that things went awry and the BBC iPlayer widget vanished.

News has reached us that it’s now been resolved by the tech guys over at the BBC, so you should find it on your Nokia 5800 in the Download! section once again.

We have to admit that we’ve not run iPlayer since the V21 update came along, so weren’t aware that it had stopped running. With that in mind, we’d like to thank the Guys over at All About Symbian for the update.

    Hello.
the BBCI player only works in the uk at the moment as the uk population pay for this service in there licence fee they pay every year…so it is reasonable to think it will not free to anone else but you can try an IP masking program that will help you to see the BBC programs on the pc.

    Dear Sirs,,
I am a new user for Nokia 5800

I installed BBC iplayer from the application but when I open it I only get a blank screen.
The top left hand corner says BBC iPlayer and the battery and the internet signals are full.

Would anyone know why the iplayer is not working?

    running version 21.0.025

If you wanna use BBC IPLAYER you need to use a WIFI connection then it works fine.

I’m having Real problems with the IPlayer on my new 5800. I downloaded the latest IPlayer and installed it, but the problem persists. It’s the same if I try to play a YouTube item in Video (not flash) mode. Real starts up, loads to 100%, then ‘buffering’ comes up and stays at 0%. It’s difficult to stop it too (but that’s probably because I haven’t got the hang of exiting apps yet.

Any advice as to how to get Real Player moving?

I appear to have the same problem “gt pete” above, that is, iplayer seems to install okay but when I run it (over wifi) I just get a blank black screen. I’ve just got the phone, Nokia 5800, and I too am running version 21.0.025.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to fix this are welcome. Thanks.

I think I might the cause of the problem that “gt pete” and I where having with a blank screen iplayer. The cookies needed to be set to accept (menu – internet – web – privacy – cookies allow)

    All works fine now.

    Hi.
I have been using 1.60 of the iPlayer app on my beloved new 5800, and I have to say it is fantastic. I have streamed and downloaded programmes using WIFI. It’s a shame we don’t have anything from the other main free-to-air channels.
