Nokia E75: Build Quality review
The Nokia E75 is first and foremost a business phone that offers email and quick messaging courtesy of its slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Over the last few days we’ve been testing out various functions.
However, we felt it was time to look at the overall build quality of the Nokia E75, to see whether it lives up to expectations and is really as good as people have been hoping it will be.
We’ll be the first to admit that the Nokia E75 isn’t the prettiest of phones, and it’s a look that divides opinion. However, the phone has a nice tactile feel to it that makes it feel solid in the hand.
What’s more, you can’t get away from how solid it feels in the hand. It’s made from a mix of metals and plastic with the metal used on the base and sides to give the phone a robust feeling. Even the glass screen is scratch resistant, which helps add to the rugged feel of this phone.

Keyboard skills
Its not just when the Nokia E75 is closed that you need to think about build quality. The Nokia E75 has a slide out keyboard, potentially cutting the device in two. If Nokia hasn’t got the balance or the tension right then things could quickly go wrong here.
While the slide action isn’t as smooth as we’d like, the mechanism holding the keyboard and screen in place certainly feels robust enough. You won’t want to press too hard on either side when it’s open, but other than to test the tensile tension, why would you?
The plastic keys once again feel great to the touch and should stand up to a fair bit of use. The fact they are rather flat and flush with the casing should prevent potential damage, as well as too much grime from getting over them.
It’s not all great news, though, as there are a couple of things that have annoyed us from the start with the Nokia E75. For starters, whenever you try and use any of the buttons on the left-hand side of the numeric pad you need to hold the E75 firmly, otherwise the two halves slide gently apart.
Then there are the microSD and microUSB covers that seem to stick out a little too much, getting caught on pocket linings. Small complaints admittedly, but annoying all the same.
Conclusion
For many, build quality isn’t easy definable and it all comes down to whether it’s fit for purpose and with this in mind, the Nokia E75 more than lives up to the idea of ‘good’ build quality. After all, it’s a business device first, consumer phone second, so needs to be tougher and more robust than the average fashion phone.
