Nokia 5800 – The Number One Music Player
The Nokia 5800 is one of the fastest selling smartphones of all time but that’s not all – it’s also the best selling portable music device of 2009!
We brought you news last week that Nokia had sold over 2.5 million units of the Nokia 5800 since it’s launch. However, it seems the numbers were a little short, as Nokia has stated over 3 million in three months is the real figure!
It seems the figures circulating last week about the success of the Nokia 5800 were were a little on the conservative side, as full details have been announced, with the Nokia 5800 topping out at over 3 million handsets sold – that’s over 1 million a month since it’s launch in January.
Sure, that makes it one of the fastest selling smartphones of all time but it also makes it the best selling portable music device! With 3 million sold no other company comes close to selling music players at the same rate as Nokia.
Number crunchers, GFK Retail and Technology details a portable music device as one that plays music, is portable and comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, all of which the Nokia 5800 has as standard. The GFK definition doesn’t really care whether the device is connected, or what OS it’s running. The Data is for the period 18th Jan 09 to 14th March 09.
To celebrate the news and to get the message out there, Nokia is running an outdoor campaign showing off it’s latest success story. We’re sure the buzz around this campaign will get in front of Nokia’s slower selling competitors, if you see what we mean?
