Ovi Mail updated to v1.1

Nokia Beta Labs has been busy in the last week, releasing not only updates of Nokia Image Exchange and Handwriting Calculator, we now get a fairly overhauled update, taking Ovi Mail to V1.1.

For those who don’t know, Ovi Mail is a web-based email client that once you’ve signed up gives you your own free email address you@ovi.com.

Beta Labs has updated Ovi Mail to Version V1.1 and brings with it a range of new languages and updated applications. According to the announcement, Ovi Mail is used in over 170 countries and on 75 Nokia devices and the web, which is some achievement for a beta program.

Beta Labs lists the benefits of signing up to Ovi Mail as:

Your personal, free email address -
Convenient mobile email access while on-the-go
Intuitive, simple and elegant web-based interface
Storage of 1GB
Full featured spam and virus protection

This update now offers support for a further 12 total languages, including UK English, US English, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malay, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Tagalog, Portugese (Brazil), Portugese (Portugal), Spanish.

Other than the wider language support it there has been a bit of tweaking to the interface, with a slightly new look. Also part of the update is a newer Compose format, so you should find it easier to write emails. There are seems to be an enhanced message display by turning URLs into links

Over at the Symbian Guru, they point out that Addressbook has also been updated, but sadly still doesn’t link directly in with Contacts on Ovi. We’re hoping this will come with a later revision as it seems the logical way to go.
