Nokia Image Space shown off at GDC

Nokia has played an active part at this year’s Game Developers Conference, currently running in San Francisco. It’s not only talking up the fact that over one million N-Gage profiles have been set up, it’s also using the show to highlight future developments.

Take Image Space for instance, which is still firmly in the prototype stage but has the intention to allow you to share photos, videos and other content about specific places.

Nokia has been showing off its Nokia Image Space concept at this year’s Game Developers Conference. To quote the research team, ‘Nokia Image Space is a prototype online community service. It lets you share your experiences, photos and other content about specific places as well as helping you understand their spatial relationships.’

The idea is to gather local generated information about a location that can that be tapped into and shared by visitors or those new to the area. It’s potentially a great way to explore new places without having to do a little research before hand – you simply turn up and let your Nok tell you what you need to know from the locally generated content.

In many respects, it’s the external use for something like Location Based Services (LBS), which are being trialled at the moment in the Kammpi shopping centre in Helsinki. While Image Space is still a long way from being reaching the trial stage, it shows that Nokia is exploring new and exciting ways for us to interact with our phones.

Check out details of Nokia Image Space research to-date.
