Firefox Mobile hits the Nokia N810

Firefox Mobile, also known as Fennec, hence the rather good looking logo, has been seen out and about in its first beta stage. To top it all off, it’s been shown-off running on a Nokia N810 tablet.

Beta 1 of Fennec is intended for testing purposes only and to allow users to give feedback to Mozilla so they can develop the browser for a wider range of devices.

Chances are, you’re already using the full-fat Firefox browser on your laptop, so moving to a mobile version is something we’re all keen to experience.

Fennec is still firmly in the development stage but with the beta 1 now showing signs of funtionality, we can’t be too far aware from seeing a final release.

What’s more, we’ve managed to unearth this rather in-depth video on YouTube courtesy of Madhava, which shows the device and browser in action.

The best thing about the video is that it shows the array of features that have already been built into the browser. One such feature, which is the same as the full-fat Firefox, is the add-on support. There are already a couple available, with the most appealing from a smartphone perspective is for adding gesture support to the browser. The gesture controls replace the need to tap on sidebar controls, instead an onscreen gesture will allow you to pull up additional features or simply return you to the Homepage.

It’s early days for Fennec yet, as Firefox Mobile won’t currently support any standard smartphone but with it running on the N810 it bodes well for future developments.
