Nokia 5800 – SIM memory full and what to do

Tags: 5800, Nokia

As with any new phone, the Nokia 5800 is very much a work in progress and while most of the known bugs have been fixed courtesy of the recent 5800 firmware update, there seems to be a slight problem with the SIM card’s memory reading as full. We’d like to point out this isn’t widespread but seems to be causing a minor stir among users.

This problem with the Nokia 5800 consists of a small flashing envelope in the top right-hand corner. This problem has been brought to our attention by a number of users but there is a very simple workaround.

The Nokia 5800 is a cracking little smartphone and Nokia’s first full touchscreen device. If you’re new to the device then you may want to check our Nokia 5800 review. However, there seems to be a slight flaw shipping with a number of Nokia 5800 devices, whereby the SIM card’s memory reads as full, even though it’s clearly not the case.

This flaw shows up as a small flashing envelope in the corner of the screen. Typically, this should mean the SIM memory is full but in some cases, empty slots are not being recognised.

It’s a very simple process to free this up. First go to into Messaging on your Nokia 5800, select Options and then SIM Messages. At this stage you need to delete all the SIM messages. This will stop the envelope from flashing and will also correct the error.

Kudos to NokNok user Ian for alerting us to the solution, great things fella!

I have similar problem which I acn’t solve – I am reciving the message “phone memory full” this happend when I tried to sync my brand new 5800 with MS outlook. The calendar shows all ok but contacts are not visible. First question how can I find and delete invisible conact – second question why it is not possible to save contacts on the memory card that would probably solve my problem as I have many contacts I carry around.
