Skype on your Nokia

Make free calls anywhere in the world If you thought Skype was just for your domestic phone, then think again as it’s now possible to download it directly to your Nokia Nseries and Eseries, such as the N96 and E71, Nok and take advantage of free calls. In fact, as long as your Nokia can handle Java, and you have it enabled, you’ll be able to use this app no questions asked.

The service is called Skype Lite and while it’s been around for a while, the second official Beta is now ready for download directly to your mobile phone. What’s more, for the first time you can also use the service in the United States.

Skype Lite offers you the chance to make Skype-to-Skype calls to other registered subscribers anywhere in the world, as well as send and receive text messages. Perhaps the most compelling reason to opt for the service is to make Skype calls at low rates to people on landline or mobile phones. The service works by delivering a low rate call to your internet connection and then using the standard service for the longhaul.

As with Skype on your home phone, you can carry out all the standard tasks, such as update your contact list, update presence and send/receive calls or messages, so you must have both a calling plan and a data plan on your mobile phone to use it.

You can download Skype Lite direct to your Nok from www.skype.com/m or you can use your PC to download the application from www.skype.com/go/mobiledownload. You can also use this website to check that your Nok is fully covered before getting involved.

Seems pretty similar to version 1 to me. It might be more useful to highlight the new features / fixes in this case? Rather than just broadly describing the things it’s been capable of since its initial release. Thanks!
