Nokia pushing S40 forwards with new developer tools

Tags: Apps, S40

S60 may seem like the favourite child sometimes – and it’s certainly more likely to show up on some of the more interesting and highend handsets – but Nokia has still got some love for the slow and steady S40 platform too.

In addition to the slick sliding 6260 announced yesterday, which runs S40, Nokia has also unveiled a whole new set of tools to help make developers’ lives easier, which will result in more cool apps for us to play with.

The new S40 6th edition platform supports a number of new features and the latest SDK (software development kit) lets developers easily tap into the new capabilities.

Not only is Nokia bring the same WebKit browser from S60 over to S40 land but there’s also Flash Lite 3.0 too so you can expect much prettier looking apps and content.

There’s also support for location based services now – what with the 6260 sporting satnav like its older S60 based siblings, so developers can start creating location aware apps for both platforms.

If you’re not frightened by the odd line of code, you can find the full rundown over on Forum Nokia Tools page now.
