Comes With Music yin and yang… oh, and some gratuitous unboxing photos

Having reluctantly returned the prototype Nokia lent us, today we ventured out to buy a couple of Comes With Music 5310 XpressMusic phones – one for fellow NokNok writer JBC (a fierce Comes With Music evangelist… he had to have the loan phone wrestled from his grasp), and one for me (I haven’t used the service yet, but I do admittedly have my doubts). Fact is, I’m from the old school CD rip ‘n’ burn tradition and champion the sanctity of a well-constructed music collection, whereas JBC is somewhat of a barbarian indiscriminately downloading and devouring as much music as possible, happy to crunch the bones of fair-use policies across the land.

Anyway, I’m going to use the Comes With Music service on my slinky new 5310 handset and do my best to keep an open mind and see if it tickles my rather particular music mojo, and report on my experiences. Until then, here’s a heap of gratuitous photos I took earlier of me unboxing this fresh piece of gadget candy…

What do you think about Nokia Comes With Music? Is it the future of music on the move, or destined for failure? Whatever side of the fence you’re on, let us know by scribbling your rants below.

At the moment you can only get Comes With Music in the UK on two phones – you have to buy a 5310 on pre-pay or contract, or an N95 8GB on a £40 a month contract from Carphone.

But no, Nokia hasn’t announced anything about being able to buy just the service. That would be awesome if you could, and something we’re praying Nokia does. On that point, how much do you reckon you’d pay for Comes With Music solely as a service you could download and use on any phone? 100 quid? 50 quid?
