First Nokia touch phone aimed at the masses

Nokia has confirmed that its first touchy feely phone won’t be one for exclusive show-offs – it’ll be aimed smack bang at the middle of the market. Once that’s out of the way, we’ll then see touch devices across the whole range from the high end poser all the way down to the entry level.

Nokia Executive Vice President of Devices, Kai Oistamo, confirmed that touch enabled phones would be available before the year’s out when speaking on a conference call about the company’s second quarter performance.

“We are fully committed to bringing to the market a complete portfolio of the touch devices, for the mass market, the high end and even at the low end,” Oistamo said. “Our first touch device will be aimed solely at the volume part of the market.”

No confirmation on what the model will be like, but unless something very strange happens it will likely be the much leaked XpressMedia 5800 Tube handset that’s been doing the rounds for the past six months or so. To be honest, we don’t really care what it’s called, we just want one as soon as possible.
