How to view RSS feeds on your Nok with Google Reader
Really Simple Syndication – aka RSS – can really streamline your web browsing by automatically feeding you any updates that are made to your favourite sites. Here’s how to get Google’s top notch feed-reader running on your Nokia.
It all comes courtesy of Apple’s iPhone. No, really – Google has recently reworked Google Reader to fit the iPhone’s large touch screen, but as it’s a standard web page there’s no reason you can’t view it on your S60 browser. Just head over to this page on your phone and sign into your regular Google account (if you have a Gmail account this’ll work) to see it.
There is a WAP-style Google Reader page for S60 mobile phones, but it’s so basic and outdated it belongs in a museum – not on your Nok. What makes the iPhone-formatted page so much better is that it arranges your chosen feeds in an easy-to-browse list, as well as letting you quickly jump into submenus like category, starred items, shared items, friends’ shared items and notes.
Once you’ve got the page up, we’d suggest you switch to a 75 percent view in your browser settings to see the listings more clearly.
If you haven’t used RSS feeds before, don’t worry. All you have to do is find the RSS button on whichever site you want, hit it, choose to add it to Google Reader and you’re done: from now on any updates made to the site will be automatically added to the reader, meaning you can quickly open it up on your phone’s browser and check out what’s been going on on your favourite sites.
