Game: Pro Series Golf (N-Gage)
Club-swinging, tee-pinging action that’ll fray your nerves just like the real thing.
What’s it good for?
Taking on Sergio, Colin et al – or even a few mates – over a leisurely 18 holes.
Judgement time…
The first golf game to hit the revived N-Gage platform, Pro Series Golf has you romping merrily down the fairways of no less than six 18-hole courses, either in classic stroke play or match play.
You can slip on the Footjoys of a number of real-life pros or bring your very own golfer (well, you get to pick his or her name) to the tour, improving your skills as you progress through a career mode. As well as solo play, you can have up to four humans playing each other on one phone, or alternatively head online and take on opponents in the N-Gage Arena.
Anyone familiar with golf games on the PC or consoles should have no trouble getting to grips with this one – you select a club and shot types, aim your shot and click the select button to start the arc bar filling up. You then hit the button again to determine shot power and once again for accuracy – hit it too early and your shot will veer to the left, too late and it’ll slice off to the right.
That’s about it really, control-wise. While that keeps things simple and easy to approach, we would have liked some way to apply spin to your shots. As it stands you can punch, chip and pitch the ball as well as use a full swing, which helps add some variety around the green.
All in all Pro Series Golf is a really enjoyable game, and like Midnight Pool it feels like a premium title – the sort of thing N-Gage needs more of.
