Buyer beware: fake Noks washing up on eBay

Looking to save a bob or two on your next Nok? If you’re thinking of digging through the eBay’s virtual bargain bin of wonders, make sure you’re getting the real deal.

The number crunchers over at Envisional have done a bit of window shopping on the auction site and found a load of Noks of dubious heritage.

Nokia was the biggest brand targeted by the scallywags, followed by LG and then good old Samsung. In just a week a whopping 2,250 N95s were up for grabs, some at rock bottom prices.

Many were unlocked, signalling that they’d taken an unofficial route to market and there’s always the possibility that they’re cheap knocks offs and not the real thing. Ten percent of sellers were also punting goods from abroad, which brings a higher risk of getting a dodgy device.

If you do get stitched up, then there’s probably not much you can do about it, so make sure you’re convinced it’s bona fide before handing over your hard earned.
