Video: Nokia 3110 eco-friendly mobile hands on

Nokia is doing its bit to help stop the polar ice caps melting with its eco-friendly 3110 evolve, helping you ease your environmental guilt.

The folks over at SmartPlanet have got their mitts on one and run it through its paces. First up, the packaging is much, much smaller than you’d normally find wrapped round a mobile phone. It’s also made from 60 percent recycled material – so fewer trees were harmed to keep your mobile safe while it was on its way to you.

The phone case itself is constructed from 50 percent bio-material – basically stuff grown in fields rather than cooked up by scientists in the lab. Finally there’s the charger, which uses 94 percent less power than Energy Star requirements. If you accidentally leave it plugged in, you’re burning less energy than with a normal charger.
