Zero waste Nokia charger concept unveiled

Nokia’s Head of Design Strategic Projects, Rhys Newman, has just given us a first glimpse at a prototype mobile charger that’s guaranteed to make Mother Nature smile.

Newman and his design team have built nine of these concept Nokia chargers for each team member to use day-to-day. They’re designed to create “zero waste”. So no phantom charging once the handset is fully juiced.

This proto has a big green button that you simply press to activate the phone to charge. Newman also explains that it could be that your Nokia phone communicates with the charger, telling it when it’s fully charged, switching it off at the source automatically. Similarly, he speaks of options where the charger could be set to just top-up your phone with a set amount of power.

An exciting eco development, and we’re literally just scratching the surface with this stuff. Nokia’s design bods are brilliantly focussed on creating sustainable and super smart products in the coming years, and we can’t wait to get our mitts on them.

We’ll be getting up close with this charger and more eco-focussed devices shortly, so check back soon for more updates.
