Nokia Internet Radio versus Spodtronic
Sounds from around the world? Yes siree, both of these apps will give you that, but which is better? We put the two streaming apps face to face to find out.
Music masters
Both Spodtronic and Internet Radio come packing pre-tuned radio stations, but Nokia’s app wins thanks to the sheer volume of its library, as well as manual tuning ability.
Stat clash!
Spodtronic 219 pre-set stations.
Nokia Internet Radio 543 pre-set stations, and manual URL entry.
Sound survey
Sound quality through both Nokia’s app and Spodtronic is top notch, although occasional drop outs occurred while using both. They’re neck and neck on the aural front.
Stat clash!
Spodtronic Good quality, although with no direct control over bitrates.
Nokia Internet Radio Good quality, and with selectable quality depending on connection type.
Control freak
Spodtonic’s non-standard controls loose points against Nokia, which uses the direction pad with clear on-screen instructions, as well as allowing the phone’s volume keys to function as expected. It’s a shame it doesn’t make use of dedicated music keys though.
Stat clash!
Spodtronic Controlled through the direction pad, but instructions can be quirky and unclear.
Nokia Internet Radio Controlled using the direction pad and volume keys.
Background check
It’s important that a music player can run in the background, letting you text or surf the web at the same time. Spodtronic fails this test spectacularly, while Nokia’s app handles it without fuss – it’s an easy win.
Stat clash!
Spodtronic Must be run in the foreground.
Nokia Internet Radio Can run as a background app without any trouble.
Extra features
Spodtronic have included podcasts and even some on-demand concert recordings in their package, while Nokia’s app is suitable for live radio only. That said, a separate Podcasting app is available to nab downloadable content.
Stat clash!
Spodtronic Includes podcast and on-demand content
Nokia Internet Radio No extra features. It’s all about the live radio.
