N800 – we salute you, our new sofa friend

The N800 got a bunch of flak when it came out for basically being a big slab of expensiveness. Having had a proper play, I say it ain’t so. It’s my new best mate!

So what brings on this sudden burst of love? Personally I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for the N800. It’s a lovely looking, slab, er, piece of kit. Rather than quibble about its limitations (lets face it, compared to regular phones or laptops, it has a few) I set about trying to work out its role in life. And I found it. It’s sitting next to me, on the sofa, watching telly.

Aside from the fact that today’s TV is crap (despite having all 9-million sky channels and a full HD set up) we’re still compelled to sit back and allow ourselves to be dumbed down. At least I am. But frequently I find myself reaching for the laptop for a bit of impromptu surfing. Step forward the N800. Lugging a 17-inch Macbook to the sofa is, lets face it, a pain. An N800 on the other hand. Easy as. Even our funky dunky NokNok AJAX works on it, which I’ll admit, surprised me.

Now all we need are some decent apps. So I’m now officially on the hunt – if you’ve seen or used anything let us know. We’ll get the Skype thing sorted out soon (even though I’m not a huge fan), then maybe even Mrs ‘I’m on the phone’ BC might take an interest.

UPDATE

Just found Sketch in Utilities. How cool is that? Screen shots in the gallery!
